On 09-17-2012 at approximately 20:13 hours police place under arrest Aaron Thomas Mitchell for his involvement in an armed robbery of an individual in the Hillcrest Skate Park.
On Monday September 17th, 2012 at approximately 20:13 hours Frederick City Police responded to the area of Hillcrest Skate Park for an armed robbery. The victim stated that while walking through the park a black male approached him, pointed a handgun at him and asked for money. The victim removed a dollar bill threw it at the suspect and ran. The suspect picked up the dollar bill and chased after the victim who fell to the ground. The suspect then turned and ran East bound towards Hillcrest Drive. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 18 years of age, black shirt, white shorts, skinny, approximately 5-09, and his face was partially covered.
A search for the suspect was immediately under way with patrol units, a K-9 track, and assistance from the Maryland State Police aviation unit. Ofc. Herman assigned to patrol squad D, stopped a subject in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Coats Bridge Place . This subject was a black male with light colored shorts, skinny and had no shirt on. This individual later identified as Aaron Thomas Mitchell agreed to talk with detectives at police headquarters. When questioned by detectives in the criminal investigations division, Mr. Mitchell confessed to the armed robbery in the park. Ofc. Herman was able to recover clothing, a handgun, and the dollar bill from the robbery. Aaron Mitchell was charged as an adult and was taken to central booking for processing. He was charged with armed robbery, assault 1st degree, and reckless endangerment.
