FCAA INITIATES GREEN JOBS
SUPPORTIVE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
The Frederick Community Action Agency (FCAA) is pleased to announce the start-up of the Green Jobs Program. The goal of the Green Jobs Program is to offer part-time supportive employment and other services for six (6) homeless and formerly homeless adults. Program participants will learn or re-learn some basic job skills; address critical issues like substance abuse that prohibits re-employment; work with a case manager to better stabilize their lives; and develop improved self-esteem and job confidence through supportive employment.
Over the next 12 months, participants in the Green Jobs Program will be performing several specific tasks in downtown Frederick including sweeping and power-washing sidewalks in the commercial areas of Market and Patrick Streets; removing chewing gum and other litter from downtown sidewalks; cleaning surface algae out of Carroll Creek; and cleaning Maas Park and the pavilion at Mullinex Park.
The Green Jobs Program is funded through a grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Program partners include the City of Frederick, Downtown Frederick Partnership, Frederick Police Department, and On Our Own of Frederick County.
Through a wide array of programs and services, the Frederick Community Action Agency provides food, shelter, medical care, housing, and other forms of assistance to families and individuals that are lower-income or homeless. For more information about the Green Jobs Program, please contact Mike Spurrier, Director, at 301-600-3955 or by email at mspurrier@cityoffrederick.com.
