Green Initiatives Team Survey Seeks Public Input

FREDERICK, MD – On August 18, 2011, Mayor Randy McClement signed Resolution #11-17 to pursue certification for The City of Frederick under the State Program “Sustainable Maryland Communities”. The Resolution appointed the City Deputy Director for Planning as staff agent that serves as the staff liaison to a citizen-appointed Green Initiatives Team (GIT).

Sustainability development means “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Sustainable Maryland Certified (SMC) goals for communities are to protect their natural assets, revitalize their communities, and achieve community recognition. Local communities may face sustainability issues that range from the global issue of greenhouse gas emissions to a local concern, such as enhancing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.

As part of the certification process, a primary criterion is to conduct a public survey to gather the community concerns and interests for directing the Team performance goals in regard to sustainability for their community. The GIT has developed The City of Frederick public survey at the following link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Greeninitiativeteamsurvey. Staff shall collect the survey information for 45 days.

Thank you for your participation in completing the survey.

For any additional information on the Green Initiatives Team and their forthcoming work, you may contact Joe Adkins, Deputy Director of Planning at jadkins@cityoffrederick.com or Pam Reppert, City Planner, at preppert@cityoffrederick.com.
