In a joint announcement, The City of Frederick and Frederick County shared a new Frederick County Public Libraries branch will be built at Hillcrest Park. Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and Mayor Michael O’Connor of The City of Frederick signed an agreement today to transfer the 4-acre City-owned park to the County to construct the first-ever library on the west side of the City.

“Community members told us they wanted a library close to their homes, schools and parks, and this location meets all those needs,” County Executive Fitzwater said. “Public input will continue to play a role, helping to shape the library’s design. I am grateful for our strong partnership with the City. We serve our residents best when we work together to find solutions.”

“The selection of Hillcrest Park as the site for a new public library marks an exciting opportunity and continues efforts of unprecedented investment into the west side of The City of Frederick,” said Mayor Michael O’Connor. “This location provides easy walkability for our residents in Hillcrest and students at Butterfly Ridge, is conveniently located near a Transit stop, and allows for connectivity to two prized City parks. I am thankful for the collaboration with Frederick County to select the best possible place to bring another community center and gathering space like this new library to our community."

A community meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. at Hillcrest Elementary School to share information on the project’s timing and how people can give input on the library’s design.
