Juvenile Charged in Teen’s Death

THE CITY OF FREDERICK (7)

The Frederick Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit has charged a juvenile male in the October shooting death of a 14-year-old.

On October 15, 2022, officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to 90 Waverley Drive, for a reported shooting.  Officers located the victim and immediately provided medical care before the arrival of Emergency Medical Services.  The victim, a 14-year-old male, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

This investigation was assigned to the Frederick Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division – Major Crimes Unit.  Through evidence and information obtained, detectives were able to identify the juvenile suspect, who was known to the victim. The suspect was in possession of a handgun when it discharged, striking the victim.

On May 19, 2023, Detective Yackovich presented the case to the Frederick County Grand Jury, resulting in an indictment against the juvenile suspect. On May 23, 2023, the juvenile suspect was arrested and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.  

Due to the suspect's age, their name will not be released to the public. The Frederick Police Department recognizes the sensitivity and seriousness of this case, and while the investigation is ongoing, no further information will be disclosed at this time.

The juvenile suspect is charged with the following: 

Involuntary Manslaughter (minor victim)
Minor in Possession of Firearm
Reckless Endangerment
