The National Transportation Planning Board is seeking new members for its Community Advisory Committee. The application period is open until Dec. 5. The application can be found at mwcog.org/cac.
This is an opportunity for residents to promote public involvement in transportation planning for the region, advance equitable representation in regional transportation planning and provide independent region-oriented community advice to the Transportation Planning Board on transportation issues and plans.
The 24 members of the CAC are appointed by the TPB. Fifteen members are selected evenly among the District of Columbia, Suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Nine additional members will be selected to incorporate the perspectives of more communities in TPB member jurisdictions. These additional positions provide an opportunity to ensure that the committee reflects the region’s racial and ethnic diversity as well as different perspectives from people with different ages and experiences from around the region.
Following the application deadline of December 5, 2022, TPB staff will review the applications received. Using criteria designed to identify a diverse and capable group, staff will make recommendations for all 24 positions on the 2023-2024 CAC term. The three TPB officers will then review staff recommendations for membership on the CAC and will jointly determine their nominations. At the TPB meeting on January 18, 2023, the board will be requested to consider the nominations and approve, with or without changes, the appointment of all 24 members. Following the board’s action, the TPB chair will announce the appointment of the CAC chair. The 2023-2024 committee will meet once a month from February 2023 to December 2024.
