Mayor opens application period for Charter Review Committee

The City of Frederick is excited to announce it is now accepting applications for those interested in sitting on the Charter Review Committee to review and make recommended updates to the City's governing document.

This committee, which will include between seven and 11 members, will be charged with examining the charter from these specific perspectives:

  • Elected official structure, composition, and membership
  • Organizational structure
  • Rules and procedures
  • Compensation
  • Frequency of review

The application period will be open for 30 days beginning today, and members will be appointed by Mayor Michael O'Connor. The committee is expected to have its first meeting in late October or early November, as part of an expected 6-8-month process to research best practices and make recommendations on the above topics.

To apply, residents should send a letter of interest to charterreview@cityoffrederickmd.gov and share what you would bring to the committee. The City of Frederick aims to ensure this committee is reflective of the diverse backgrounds of our community and encourages applications from those with backgrounds in but not limited to government affairs, law, business, finances, nonprofit management, and public health. Applicants must live, work or own property in the City of Frederick.

The general public will have ample opportunity to engage with this process and can find more information on a timeline and updates from the Charter Review Committee at frederickmd.gov/charterreview.

Anyone with questions about the committee is encouraged to contact Gayon Sampson, Chief of Staff, at GSampson@cityoffrederickmd.gov
