Frederick, MD - Mayor Randy McClement will hold a press conference on Wednesday, October 12th at 12:00 noon on Monocacy Boulevard near the intersection of Hughes Ford Road and Monocacy Boulevard. Concrete arches, manufactured in Pennsylvania, consist of 108 sections and are being assembled on the bridge construction site. Monocacy Boulevard will cross Carroll Creek prior to Gashouse Pike over the three span concrete arch bridge. The Monocacy Boulevard project consisted of approximately $12.5 million in construction costs and approximately $1.5 million in design, permitting, and construction inspection costs.

Mayor Randy McClement said, "This project has been long in the works and we are very excited that it is nearing fruition. The alleviation of the traffic congestion in the City will result in less stress on City streets and pedestrian traffic. Commercial businesses along the corridor will benefit greatly as well with the additional access. In additional, during this economic downturn, this project provided many jobs for local contractors."

To reach the press conference site, travel east on East Patrick Street past the Frederick Fairgrounds and turn left onto Monocacy Boulevard. Continue on Monocacy Boulevard crossing over Hughes Ford Road onto the new portion of Monocacy Boulevard. Continue on the new portion of Monocacy Boulevard to the site of the project. Parking is available at this location.

The majority of the critical bridgework will be complete by the end of this year and the entire project should be complete and open to traffic in the latter part of 2012. Once complete, the new road will provide an additional route to US15, and East and Market Streets to the east and north side of the City. The completion of the Monocacy Boulevard Road project will alleviate regional traffic congestion, provide additional access to commercial businesses along MD26, Monocacy Boulevard and Gashouse Pike, and provide a connection from Hughes Ford Road to Gashouse Pike and Schifferstadt Boulevard.
