In recent weeks, the City of Frederick has seen an increased number of residents ice skating on Carroll Creek due to the low temperatures freezing the creek.
This unsafe activity has resulted in at least one resident falling through the ice over the weekend. The City of Frederick and Frederick Police Department want to remind residents that ice skating on Carroll Creek and Culler Lake is highly discouraged and dangerous to residents due to the cold temperatures and potential for the ice to break.
The City of Frederick would like to refer residents who want to ice skate to safer alternatives such as indoor skating rinks.
“The Frederick Police Department realizes during these months when Carroll Creek freezes over, residents may be tempted to try to ice skate, or even venture onto the ice without skates,” Chief of Police Jason Lando said. “In the interest of public safety, we are imploring residents to please refrain from doing so and please instead choose a safer option.”
