City of Frederick announces traffic improvements at Christopher's Crossing and Opposumtown Pike

The City of Frederick is excited to announce the completion of the construction of a new traffic signal and improvements at the intersection of Opossumtown Pike and Christopher’s Crossing.

Beginning today, Jan. 14, 2022, the new signal at the intersection will be turned on to flash mode. The signal is scheduled to go into full operation on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022. In the interim, the signal will flash red for all approaches and will operate under the existing all-way stop condition until the signal is fully operational. This temporary condition will give the motoring public an opportunity to adjust to the new traffic signal.

Coinciding with the new signal going into full operation, posted speed limits along Christopher’s Crossing and Monocacy Boulevard between Opossumtown Pike and MD 26 will be updated to 30 mph from the current 25 mph.

Motorists are urged to remain alert to the new traffic pattern at the intersection and changes to the posted speed limit.

The City will also implement several improvements to pedestrian safety and traffic operations at the Christopher's Crossing/Timber Grove Rd intersection in Spring 2022. These improvements include a new crosswalk across Christopher’s Crossing with high-intensity markings and associated signage, a pedestrian refuge area within the Christopher’s Crossing median for the crosswalk, restrictions on left turn and through movements from Timber Grove Rd on to Christopher’s Crossing, new ADA-compliant ramps and crosswalks, removal of stop control on Christopher’s Crossing, and other improved markings and signage throughout the intersection. Additional information regarding the timing of this improvement will be provided at a later date.

Questions regarding this project can be sent to engineeringreview@cityoffrederickmd.gov.
