Heavy rainfall yesterday and overnight exceeded The City of Frederick Wastewater Treatment Plant’s capacity, causing overflow of wastewater, starting at about 6:00 PM on Wednesday. The overflow ended at 12:30 AM this morning.
The overflow occurred in front of the Wastewater Treatment Plant into Carroll Creek, immediately upstream of the Monocacy River. The State of Maryland Department of the Environment and Health Department has been notified.
Signs have been posted cautioning the public to avoid the area where the overflow occurred. The drinking water supply is not affected by this incident, and the City’s water supply is safe for all uses.
