Revised
Church Street Parking Deck to Temporarily Close for Repairs
Frederick, MD – The Church Street Parking Garage will close to all parking on Monday July 16, 2012 at 6:00AM in order to begin necessary repairs to the garage. All vehicles must be removed from the garage by 6:00AM on Monday, July 16th. Vehicles not removed will be towed at owners’ expense. In an effort to minimize the impact of the closure of the Church Street Parking Garage on residents, local businesses, and visitors, by late July / early August, the first two levels of the garage will reopen after 5:00 PM to evening hourly users and on the weekends to hourly users. The reopening of the garage during the construction process is contingent upon the recommendation of the contractor and on-site inspectors. The City of Frederick’s number one concern is public safety. The garage repairs are scheduled to be completed by October 19, 2012.
The Parking Department started the Church Street Parking Garage closure notification process to monthly parking users the beginning of June.
Merchants and visitors are advised to use the existing four parking decks that are located within three blocks of the Church Street Parking Garage. The locations are as follows;
• Court Street – 2 South Court
• Carroll Creek – 44 East Patrick
• West Patrick – 138 West Patrick
• East All Saints – 125 East Patrick
• Attached please find a map highlighting ADA parking availability in each parking deck and the locations of City structured parking facilities.
In addition to the parking decks, there is on-street hourly parking available and two surface parking lots located on the 300 block of North Market Street next to Old Town Tavern and in front of the former Carmack Jay Building.
The Church Street Garage Rehabilitation project will extend the lifespan of the existing garage for an additional seven years. In an effort to minimize the impact the closure of a parking deck has on the community, this three month closure will allow the garage to remain open uninterrupted for years. Extending the life of the Church Street Parking Garage will give The City of Frederick an opportunity to raise the funds to rebuild the Church Street Parking Garage in the future.
The City apologizes for any inconvenience this will cause, but the repairs to the garage are necessary and will ensure additional years of service from the garage as well as ensuring the safety of the structure for years to come. Every effort is being made to minimize the downtime and updates will be posted on the City website and by public notice as they occur. The City and the Parking Department appreciate you cooperation and patience as we undergo these repairs.
