On July 23, 2021, members of the Frederick Police’s Tactical Investigations Unit (TIU) were assisting the United States Marshals Service with the apprehension of felony fugitive in the 1000 block of Key Parkway. At approximately 2:30 pm, undercover detectives observed an adult male, identified as De Rome Lewis, 26, wearing a Fanny pack that appeared to contain a firearm.
Detectives made contact with Lewis and quickly determined Lewis did in fact have a loaded handgun in the Fanny pack. Due to a 2015 felony conviction, Lewis is not permitted to possess a firearm or ammunition.
It should be noted that Lewis was previously arrested on 24 June, 2021 after he fled from a traffic stop with the Frederick Police Department. During that incident he was arrested after he was determined to be in possession of a loaded handgun and three types of controlled dangerous substances. Lewis was out on a $10,000 bond for these charges at the time of his arrest.
Lewis was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center where he was charged and is being held initially without bond.
This investigation was a coordinated effort between the Frederick Police Department United States Marshals Service under the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN). The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services provides grant funding and strategic support to MCIN member sites to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through inter-agency collaboration and data sharing to make Maryland safer.
