On Thursday July 22, 2021, while Department of Public Works crews were in the process of making repairs to affected areas from this past weekend's flooding, they identified a material under the subfloor of the second-floor foyer that could possibly contain asbestos.
As per the City’s asbestos control policy and for the safety of City employees, the City immediately removed workers from the area and notified employees that the building would be closed and remain closed through the weekend until environmental testing can be completed. City Hall is expected to be able to reopen early next week.
While City Hall is closed, residents are asked to use City Hall’s drop boxes to conduct City business or use online bill payment options.
The Historic Preservation Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday evening will be moved to the City's Municipal Office Annex, and will be broadcast on YouTube, and not Channel 99. The meeting can be viewed at: cityoffrederickmd.gov/videos.
