Americorps Member Needed for Full-Time Service at the Department of Housing and Human Services

The Department of Housing and Human Services (HHS), in partnership with A STAR AmeriCorps, is pleased to announce the availability of two (2) openings for full-time AmeriCorps Members to serve at HHS. Specifically, the AmeriCorps Members will serve as Outreach Workers and will be responsible for a variety of tasks at HHS. This is a day shift position and the AmeriCorps Member will serve Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

AmeriCorps is a national service program sponsored by the Corporation for National Service in cooperation with State governments, intermediary organizations, and service sites. Full-time members receive a living allowance stipend of $15,100 for a one-year (1,700 hours) full-time commitment of service and $7,550 for a one-year (900 hours) part-time commitment of service. Health care coverage, deferment of student loans, training, and other benefits are available if the member qualifies. AmeriCorps members also receive an Educational Award of $6,195 after the completion of 1,700 hours of service/full-time service or $3,097 after the completion of 900 hours of service/part-time service. Perhaps most importantly, members gain invaluable “hands-on” experience by assisting people and communities that are in need of help.

Through a wide array of programs and services, HHS provides food, shelter, medical care, housing, transportation, and other forms of assistance to families and individuals that are lower-income or homeless. Started in 1968, the Department of Housing and Human Services is sponsored by the City of Frederick and Friends for Neighborhood Progress, Inc.
