On June 17, 2021 at approximately 10:54 a.m. officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to a Carjacking in the area of Unit block of Hillcrest Drive. Upon arrival Officers determined it was an attempted motor vehicle theft, not a carjacking. The suspect, later identified as Herbert Jesse Lloyd Sedillo, 39. Mr. Sedillo entered the vehicle while it was parked and running and attempted to steal it when he was confronted by the owner of the vehicle and fled the area on foot. Mr. Sedillo then ran to a van located in the same parking lot that had also been left unattended and running. Mr. Sedillo was able to successfully take this vehicle before Officers arrived on scene.
Based on the suspect description and possible links to the cases listed below, plain-clothed Officers set up on Mr. Sedillo’s residence. This afternoon, Officers observed Mr. Sedillo walking in the area of his residence and took him into custody without incident. Mr. Sedillo was taken into custody to serve court paperwork regarding a theft that occurred at the Home Depot on West Patrick Street a few days earlier. He was also detained and brought back to FPD headquarters for questioning in reference to the incidents that occurred this morning. Mr. Sedillo also had evidence on him of today’s motor vehicle thefts at the time of his arrest.
Based on the evidence and information recovered during today’s investigation, Det. Jones obtained enough probable cause to charge Mr. Sedillo with the following charges related to the below listed incidents dating back to June 8. All the vehicles involved in this investigation have been recovered and are in working order. It should also be noted that no one was injured during any of these incidents.
