FPD increasing police presence downtown on weekend nights

Public Safety Alert

As COVID-19 restrictions continue to loosen and activity increases in the downtown area, the Frederick Police Department is actively working to increase its police presence downtown.

Beginning this weekend, the department is launching downtown weekend patrol team that will run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings until further notice. A team of officers will work a walking beat along Market and Patrick Streets from 10 PM until after bars and restaurants close. These officers will be on foot to ensure high accessibility to residents and business owners.

The Frederick Police Department reminds residents as activity increases downtown that all residents play a role in ensuring a safe and welcoming City.

As always, please follow these general public safety tips when leaving your house:

  • Be aware and vigilant of your surroundings.
  • Walk with a friend or another person whenever possible.
  • Know your quickest and safest route to your destination.
  • If you see something suspicious, call 911.
