Since a Dec. 20th press release, the Frederick Police Department has investigated dozens of additional malicious destruction of property incidents involving non-ballistic projectiles being shot at downtown business windows.
The department has received reports for approximately 41 total incidents, which appear to be random. Investigators have not identified specifically targeted individuals or businesses, although the non-ballistic projectiles have struck several locations more than once.
The FPD shares the frustration felt by the victims in these cases, and we want to assure the community that our efforts to stop the senseless vandalism has been in full swing.
This overall case is assigned to Det. Sharpe with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). We are asking for the public’s assistance in staying vigilant and reporting suspicious activity that might be related to this crime series. If you have information, or cameras on your residence or business that captured suspicious activity, please contact the tip line below so a Detective can contact you.
Additionally, the Patrol Division has assigned more officers to patrol the affected areas. A Crime Analyst working on this series is providing information to fine tune officer deployments. Other officers are assisting detectives in reviewing video footage from multiple locations.
With most criminal cases, someone has information that can help crack a case. Anonymous tips can be left anonymously on FPD’s tip lines: voicemail to 301-600-TIPS (8477); e-mailed to fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org; or sent via text to 240-674-TIPS (8477).
For added incentive to report the offender or offenders, the City of Frederick is a participating jurisdiction with Metro Crime Stoppers (MCS) of Maryland. Submitting a tip through MCS is anonymous, and if the information leads to an arrest or criminal charges, the tipster receives a cash reward. See http://metrocrimestoppers.org/submit-a-tip/ for more information.
