A long term investigation culminated in the service of
several search warrants on the morning of September 24, 2019. A search wasconducted of an apartment on Key Parkway where a handgun was located. The
resident of the apartment, Jerry Harris, was arrested and charged with multipleoffenses. Mr. Harris is disqualified from possessing a firearm due to his prior
criminal record. Mr. Harris was held without bond at the Frederick County AdultDetention center pending trial in the Circuit Court for Frederick County. On
November 30, 2020, Mr. Harris proceeded by way of an Alford plea to one countof violation of Public Safety Article 5-133(b) possession of a regulated
firearm by a disqualified individual. He was sentenced to 5 years suspend allbut time served (433 days - since 9/24/19) - 2 years of supervised probation
upon release.
This investigation was a coordinated effort betweenFrederick Police Department, Frederick HIDTA Group (High Intensity Drug
Trafficking Area) to include the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office NarcoticsInvestigations Section, Frederick County States Attorney, Homeland Security Investigations, the Maryland State
Police, and the Brunswick Police Department under the Maryland Criminal IntelligenceNetwork (MCIN). The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and
Victim Services provides grant funding and strategic support to MCIN membersites to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through
inter-agency collaboration and data sharing to make Maryland safer.
