The City of Frederick hired contractor Mid Atlantic Utilities to perform essential water main reconstruction on 7th Street, spanning from Max Kehne Park to Market St. This project is critical to the life, health, and safety of City residents, as it addresses the aging water distribution infrastructure in the City. The City will provide updates as the project continues and impacts change. Temporary road closures may result in small travel impacts. The City, Mid Atlantic Utilities, Frederick Police Department, and Frederick Health have collaborated to ensure access to the hospital remains open at all times. The City thanks the residents for their patience during this work.
Project Phases
Design Phase: Beginning April 2020
The design phase includes Miss Utility painting and test pitting (small cuts into the blacktop to clean and evaluate current piping). This phase will last two-three weeks and will include temporary lane closures.
Construction Phase: October 2020
The construction phase will include new water main insertion along the yellow line on the map (below). Mid Atlantic Utilities will complete between 150-200 feet of pipework each day and will be working four days a week. During construction, the City estimates the following impacts:
- Temporary road closures as MAU works along 7th Street
- Night work near Motter Ave
- Market Street to Bentz Street will be fully closed to cars and pedestrians (Monday through Thursdays 7AM-5PM)
Full paving and road repair will be completed in Summer 2021
