Frederick Food Security Network Continues to Provide Support

The Frederick Food Security Network at Hood College, which collaborates with The City of Frederick’s Sustainability Department, will be expanding its operation to include hydroponics thanks to recent funding from the Ausherman Family Foundation. This upgrade to the greenhouses aims to help the Network grow food year-round and provide fresh produce to local families in need. In 2020 (to date), the group has harvested and distributed nearly 1,700 pounds of produce and served 445 households.

The City of Frederick Sustainability Department supported the Fall 2019 expansion of the Frederick Food Security Network into two greenhouses in Fall 2019 through a Healthy Eating Active Living grant. This grant enabled the group to help more families and to extend the growing season.

The City looks forward to continuing this partnership and thanks the Food Security Network and Hood College for their continued commitment to the families of Frederick.
