STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION HOSTS PUBLIC MEETING FOR MOTTER AVENUE/OPOSSUMTOWN PIKE BRIDGE OVER US 15 PROJECT

WHAT: The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is hosting an informational meeting to inform residents of details on an upcoming project to replace the Motter Avenue Bridge over US 15 and widen and improve Motter Avenue/Opossumtown Pike from US 15 to Thomas Johnson Drive. A section of Thomas Johnson Drive will also be widened.

WHEN:

Tuesday, June 5 between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.
Formal presentation will begin at 6:45 p.m.

WHERE:

Governor Thomas Johnson High School – Cafeteria
1501 North Market Street, Frederick, MD 21701

WHY:

SHA, in partnership with the City of Frederick, is beginning a major construction project on the Motter Avenue/ Opossumtown Pike Bridge over US 15, using federal, state and local funding.

The bridge will remain open to traffic throughout the project, but lanes will be shifted, and temporary lane closures may occur during off-peak hours. To promote work zone safety, automated speed enforcement will be in place on US 15.

To ensure continued safe access for the many pedestrians who use this route, including students at nearby Governor Thomas Johnson High School and Frederick Community College, SHA will construct a temporary pedestrian bridge.

Crews recently began relocating utilities and establishing storm water management. Road work could begin as early as this fall, depending on when utility work is complete. Project completion is anticipated by fall 2014, weather permitting.

At the meeting, SHA and city staff will give a presentation about the project and will be available to answer questions.
