Frederick Police Cruiser Struck by Drunk Driver
FREDERICK, MD – On Friday, March 8, 2019, at approximately 11:06 pm, Officer Edwards was traveling northbound in the unit block of Hillcrest Drive when his marked patrol vehicle was struck by a Ford Mustang. The driver of the Mustang, Alfredo Antonio Guzman Barrera, did not stop after the collision and accelerated his vehicle in an attempt to flee the scene.
Officer Edwards activated his emergency equipment and followed Mr. Guzman Barrera as he continued to drive in an erratic manner through the parking lot at 1080 W. Patrick Street. Eventually, the vehicle stopped behind the shopping center, when it reached the end of the parking lot (dead end). Officer Edwards was not injured in the incident.
The driver of the vehicle, Alfredo Antonio Guzman Barrera, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses including:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol
- Attempt to elude by failing to stop
- Fail to stop after property damage accident
