Frederick Running Festival Feedback
The Frederick Police Department is seeking input from the community with providing feedback and suggestions regarding the Frederick Running Festival held on Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Based on input provided following the 2011 event, this year’s Frederick Half Marathon was changed from a Saturday back to Sunday as in years past. The course route for the half marathon remained relatively consistent with the 2011 half marathon route in the City. The most notable change involved adding a loop through Monocacy Village off of East St. Another change in 2012 was moving the start of the race from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

The Frederick Running Festival also included a Kids Fun Run and the Twilight 5k race on Saturday, May 5th. The 5k race route began at the Frederick Fairgrounds, followed Monroe Ave. to the Frederick Airport, before ending back at the Fairgrounds. The 5k race concluded at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Festival organizers reported over 7,500 runners participated in this event. The Frederick Police Department was responsible for controlling traffic at 147 intersections along the route to ensure the safety of all participants, supporters and motorists. With an event of this size in the City of Frederick, disruptions in traffic, as well as inconveniences to businesses and residents were anticipated. We are seeking community input and suggestions on how the event was handled and how we can make improvements in the future.

If you would like to offer your input and suggestions, please forward the information to FPDeventfeedback@gmail.com. The information received will be reviewed and discussed at future meetings involving public safety representatives, race organizers and City officials.
