The Frederick Police Department will be conducting a Pedestrian Enforcement Operation in Downtown Frederick on Friday, April 20 between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM .
The purpose of this enforcement operation is to:
• Increase pedestrian awareness of laws regarding pedestrian safety.
• Increase driver awareness of laws regarding pedestrian safety and right-of-way.
• Reduce fatalities, injuries and economic loss associated with vehicle-pedestrian accidents.
• Positively affect safe behavior of pedestrians and motorists.
We want to encourage pedestrians to legally and safely cross the road using crosswalks and and/or intersections with signals. In addition, we want to educate drivers on the rules of pedestrian right-of-way in crosswalks. Information will be provided for both drivers and pedestrians on pedestrian right-of-way rules in the State of Maryland.
This Pedestrian Enforcement Operation is funded by the Maryland Highway Safety Office through the Mid-Western Traffic Safety Coalition and supported by the Street Smart campaign in the Washington, DC, suburban Maryland and northern Virginia area. Information regarding the Washington area Street Smart campaign can be found at www.bestreetsmart.net.
