[ARCHIVED] Frederick Police Arrest Two during Traffic Stop (SCU)

Nass and Strayer

The Frederick Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit has made an arrest of a Frederick man for possession of cocaine, and a Pennsylvania man for possession of crack cocaine and oxycodone…

On 05/24/2017, officers of the Frederick Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit were conducting enforcement in the area of Willowdale Drive and Key Parkway. During this enforcement, an officer determined a vehicle that he was following displayed suspended registration plates. As a result, a traffic stop was initiated in the area of Willowdale Drive and W Patrick Street; however, the vehicle did not fully stop, and remain stopped, until the 1000 block of W Patrick Street. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was identified by his MD Driver’s License as, Gregory John Nass.

Nass and the vehicle occupants appeared visibly nervous. Because of the vehicle initially failing to stop, and the nervous demeanor of the vehicle’s occupants, a K9 unit was requested. Just prior to the K9 sniff, the back passenger, who was later identified as, Matthew James Strayer, began reaching around in the backseat area, and failed to comply with officers’ orders to stop his movement. Therefore, all occupants were removed from the vehicle and a K9 sniff was conducted. The sniff yielded a positive alert for the presence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS). As a result, Nass was placed under arrest.

Search incident to arrest of Nass revealed an amount of suspected cocaine on his person. Strayer consented to a search of his person. During the search of Strayer, two oxycodone pills were located. Strayer did not have a prescription or a bottle for the pills. In addition, the search of the vehicle revealed a glass-smoking device, with a white powdery substance, laying on the rear floorboard, which is where Strayer was reaching before officers removed him from the vehicle.

As a result, Nass and Strayer were transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
