The Frederick Police Department in partnership with the Frederick News Post marked its 200th capture on April 4th with the arrest of Brittany Harris. Brittany Harris was arrested after turning herself into the Frederick Police Department on April 4, 2012.

There will be a press conference scheduled to embrace this milestone on Tuesday, April 10th at 10:00 am on the steps of the Courthouse (100 W. Patrick Street). In case of inclement weather the press conference will be moved indoors to the Annex Building (140 W. Patrick Street).

Every other week, as part of the FMW program, approximately four persons wanted by the Frederick Police Department or allied agencies are featured on Sunday in the Frederick News Post detailing whom we are seeking and the charges against them. The Frederick’s Most Wanted program began in April of 2009 and has featured 281 wanted persons, 200 of them being captured to date.

Governor Martin O’Malley released a statement saying - “The men and women of the Frederick Police Department, The Frederick News-Post and their partners in law enforcement and the community are to be congratulated for this important milestone. The 200 arrests made through the Frederick’s Most Wanted Program demonstrate again the importance of information sharing and collaboration in keeping all of our communities safe places in which to live, raise families and do business.”

Chief Kim C. Dine, chief of the Frederick Police Department, stated, “Community policing is not a spectator sport and the collaboration, teamwork, and success of Frederick Most Wanted, exemplified by the multiple agencies involved in this effort, underscores that point. When we all work together and take ownership of our neighborhoods we can continue drive down crime and keep the quality of life in Frederick high. I thank our partners in helping us collectively get two hundred law breakers off the street!”

The Frederick’s Most Wanted program idea was collaboration between several agencies that attend twice monthly Heightened Enforcement Accountability & Treatment Team (HEAT) meetings. These meetings are held at the Frederick Police Department with local law enforcement and community partners such as: Frederick Police Department, Office of Community Supervision (formally Parole & Probation), Department of Juvenile Services, Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office, Maryland State Police, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick PD, Thurmont PD, City of Frederick Code Enforcement, Frederick County Animal Control, Community Action Agency and The Housing Authority.

The HEAT meetings are one component of the CSAFE-VPI (Collaborative Supervision and Focused Enforcement-Violence Prevention Initiative). The goal of the CSAFE Violence Reduction Initiative is to reduce crime by identifying and monitoring offenders in the area. The Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention funded the CSAFE-VPI program under grant number CSAF-2012-1916.
