[ARCHIVED] Arrest made in incident on 02-18-2012 at 69.South Market Street (2012-010007)

The Criminal Investigation Division charged a suspect with burglary after breaking into a home on 02-18-2012 at 69 South Market Street.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Division conducted an investigation of a stabbing incident that occurred on February 18, 2012 at 69 South Market Street, Frederick Maryland. During the course of the investigation it was revealed that the suspect was stabbed during a physical altercation with the homeowner, identified as Daniel Minnick. Mr. Minnick who resides at the residence heard loud banging on his front door and opened the door. Upon opening the door
Joseph Allen forced his way inside the residence and physically assaulted Mr. Minnick. During the altercation Mr. Minnick in an attempt to defend himself grabbed a knife and stabbed Mr. Allen. Mr. Allen was treated at shock trauma in Baltimore for his injuries and released.

After consultation with the Frederick County State’s Attorneys Office it was determined that Mr. Minnick would not be criminally charged in this incident. Joseph Louis Allen was charged with three counts of burglary and one count of assault in the second degree. On 03-02-2012 Mr. Allen was taken into custody by the patrol division and transported to central booking for processing.

Charges: Burglary 1st, 3rd, and 4th degree
Assault 2nd Degree

This incident was not a random act of violence or criminal activity. Mr. Allen at one time dated Mr. Minnick's girlfriend. During the preliminary phase of the investigation it was revealed that there was an ongoing situation involving Mr. Allen's ex-girlfriend, and Mr. Minnick's present girlfriend, the same girl Mr. Allen used to date. This ongoing feud resulted in the arrest of Mr. Allen after he showed up at Mr. Minnick's house, got into a physical altercation with Mr. Minnick and was subsequently arrested for burglary.
