City HPC to Co-host Lecture by C. Frasier Smith
Frederick’s Role in the Civil Rights Movement
Frederick, MD –On March 14, 2012, the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, the African American Resources Cultural Heritage Society (AARCH) and The City of Frederick Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will co-host a lecture by C. Fraser Smith.
Smith is the author of Here Lies Jim Crow: Civil Rights in Maryland and William Donald Schaefer: A Political Biography. He has been the recipient of many journalism awards during his long career as reporter for the Baltimore Sun and now columnist for the Daily Record. He also serves as a political analyst for WYPR National Public Radio.
Smith will discuss Frederick’s role in the civil rights movement from Chief Justice Roger Brook Taney’s Dred Scott ruling to local efforts to break down Jim Crow prohibitions, and more.
