Frederick, MD – May 20, 2015: Frederick’s Most Wanted Marks its 400th Arrest
The Frederick Police Department in partnership with the Frederick News Post marked its 400th arrest on May 20, 2015 with the arrest of Denver Owens. Mr. Owens was arrested in Helena, Montana after being questioned in another incident. Mr. Owens warrant was for Violation of Probation for possession with intent to distribute. Mr. Owens had an open warrant through the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and was featured as one of Frederick’s Most Wanted on May 17, 2015.
Every other week, as part of the FMW program, approximately four persons wanted by the Frederick Police Department or allied agencies are featured on Sunday in the Frederick News Post detailing whom we are seeking and the charges against them. The Frederick’s Most Wanted program began in April of 2009 and has featured 530 wanted persons, 400 of them being captured to date.
A/Chief Pat Grossman, Chief of the Frederick Police Department, stated, “The Frederick’s Most Wanted Program has been a tremendous success and a key contributor to assisting law enforcement with apprehending wanted persons. I would like to note that the success of this collaborative effort would not be possible if not for the citizens providing valuable information. Whether leaving tips regarding a person’s location or convincing a person they know to turn themselves in, the community deserves a large portion of the credit for this program’s success. I would also like to recognize the diligence and effort of Community Outreach Coordinator, Michele Bowman. Michele has spearheaded this effort and from the beginning and I know will continue to work tirelessly towards the next monumental goal of 500 captures.”
The Frederick’s Most Wanted program idea was collaboration between several agencies that attend twice monthly Heightened Enforcement Accountability & Treatment Team (HEAT) meetings. These meetings are held at the Frederick Police Department with local law enforcement and community partners such as: Frederick Police Department, Parole & Probation, Department of Juvenile Services, Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office, Maryland State Police, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick PD, Thurmont PD, City of Frederick Code Enforcement, Community Action Agency and The Housing Authority.
The HEAT meetings are one component of the Safe Streets Initiative. The goal of the Safe Streets Initiative is to reduce crime by identifying and monitoring offenders in the area. The Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention funds the Safe Streets Initiative.
