Frederick, MD-The Frederick Police Department is warning businesses and the public about an increase in telephone and email scams taking place across the country. Should you receive a telephone call or email stating you owe money for unpaid bills/taxes without any prior written notification, question the person about their credentials and the company they are work for. Do not provide your personal information. Should they provide you information that does not sound correct, end the conversation. Should you be directed to obtain a money order or a debit/money card to satisfy the unpaid funds, end the conversation immediately. Please contact your local law enforcement to report the incident. You can also check the “Federal Trade Commission” and “Federal Bureau of Investigation” websites to keep up to date with current scams.
