The Frederick Police Department has arrested a suspect in the July 2014 Rape investigation that occurred in the 1100 block of E. Patrick Street.

UPDATE:

Brian Charles Prodoehl, a 27 year old male from Westminster, MD, has been charged with 1st Degree Assault and Attempted 3rd Degree Sex offense related to the rape investigation reported to the Frederick Police Department at 11:00am on July 21, 2014.

The investigation revealed an adult female victim was walking in the 1100 block of East Patrick Street when she was approached from behind by an unknown male suspect who choked her to the point of unconsciousness. The victim further reported, when she awoke, she was partially unclothed and believed she was sexually assaulted.

With the assistance of the victim and video surveillance footage from a gas station in the area, the primary investigator, Detective Douglas Ames, was able to identify Prodoehl as a suspect.

This investigation has been ongoing over the past several months. The investigator has conducted numerous in-depth interviews, reviewed hours of video surveillance, and processed evidence related to the assault. In an investigation of this nature the amount of testing required and coordination with state labs takes a period of time to complete. It was through Detective Ames' attention to detail and perseverance that we were able to close this case and arrest Mr Prodoehl without incident.

Prodoehl was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Carroll County, Maryland by the Maryland State Police Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force who assisted the Frederick Police Department in this apprehension
