On February 4, 2015, at approximately 2011 hours, Frederick Police responded to Frederick High School for a shots fired complaint. Officers arrived quickly to the scene and were advised that several shots were fired outside of the building near the gymnasium. Two victims, suffering from gunshot wounds, were located and subsequently transported to Baltimore for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The cafeteria was searched and secured and the athletes, staff, students, and attendees who were in the gymnasium for a basketball game were ushered to the safety of the cafeteria while the remainder of the building and school grounds were cleared.
Officers from the Frederick Police Department, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, ATF, and the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of the occupants, render aid, and search for suspects. Brad Young, the President of the Frederick County Board of Education, as well as Liz Barrett, the Vice President of the Board of Education, were present at the scene.
No suspects were located in the school or on school property, and the investigation into their identity is continuing. All students, who were not accompanied by their parents at the game, were escorted to their parents for pickup.
