National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week was established by the National Coalition for the Homeless in partnership with the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness. According to the NHHAW website, “National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is held each year the week before Thanksgiving. This is a time for us all to start to think about what we are thankful for, and a perfect time to share our compassion with our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness.”

Established in 1983, the Frederick County Coalition for the Homeless (FCCH) is the oldest local coalition working to end homelessness in Maryland. The FCCH is a coalition comprised of governmental and non-profit human service and community development organizations, religious institutions, for-profit businesses, local government officials, interested citizens, and people that are homeless or formerly homeless. The FCCH meets monthly in order to coordinate the planning of local homeless services, discuss local needs and approve new projects, and advocate for additional resources to address homelessness. For more information about the FCCH, please contact Todd Johnson, Chairperson at 301-600-3958 or Ken Allread, Vice Chairperson at 301-662-2003.
