Frederick, MD -- The Maryland MVA is launching a Twitter contest to mark the national Teen Driver Safety Week, which began on Sunday, October 19, 2014. The contest is intended to raise awareness of teen driver safety issues and also to promote safe driving behavior to young drivers in Maryland. The contest will run through Saturday, October 25, 2014 and winners will receive one of several gift cards that have been provided from Subway, AMC Theaters or iTunes.
“I am in full support of this effort – it is a great opportunity to make the young driver more aware of the safety issues involved with being behind the wheel. Statistically in Maryland, there is an average of 8,500 injuries and 80 fatalities involving young drivers each year.” said Mayor Randy McClement.
MVA Administrator and Governor O’Malley’s Representative for Highway Safety, Milt Chaffee said. “The annual Teen Driver Safety Week campaign raises awareness about teen driver safety issues including seat belt use, distracted driving and speeding.”
Each day during Teen Driver Safety Week (October 20-25, 2014), a winner will be randomly selected from valid entries that have used the hashtag #newteendriverMD.
How to enter:
1) Use Twitter to share a photo of you standing in front of the enlarged license located within any MVA branch.
2) Tag your post with the contest hashtag (#newteendriverMD).
3) Entrants must also follow Maryland’s MVA (@md_mva) and the Toward Zero Deaths MD campaign (@tzd_maryland) on Twitter.
Winners will be announced within two weeks following the end of the contest and will be recognized on the towardzerodeathsmd.com and mva.maryland.gov websites.
