On Friday, September 26, 2014, Hood College is sponsoring the March on Frederick, a tribute to the historic March on Washington, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The march will bring together residents, visitors, students, faculty, staff and friends to reflect on the progress made within the Frederick community since the passing of the landmark Civil Rights Act.

The march will begin at Harry Grove Stadium at 9:30a.m. and progress by historic Frederick landmarks. It will end at the front steps of Alumnae Hall of Hood College at approximately 11:30a.m. The route of the march is listed below:

Harry Grove Stadium – staging location
Cross Stadium Dr. into Mt. Olivet Cemetery
Exit cemetery and left onto Fox’s Alley
Right onto Carrollton Dr.
Cross Madison St. onto Stine’s Ln., then Broadway
Cross. W. South St. onto Ice St.
Left onto W. All Saints St.
Right onto S. Bentz St. (proceeding north on S. Bentz St. for several blocks)
Left onto W. 2nd St.
Right onto College Ave.
Left onto N. College Parkway
Cross Rosemont Ave. into Hood College
End at steps of Alumnae Hall

The Frederick Police Department will be conducting traffic control in the form of rolling closures and openings to ensure the march takes place with as minimal disruption to traffic as possible. Citizens will see a significant police presence along the route with additional traffic control devices such as barricades and traffic signs to help keep participants safe.

The Frederick Police Department would like to remind citizens to be aware that the event is expected to bring several hundred participants and their supporters, in addition to the first responders protecting our community. Motorists should expect potential delays along the designated route and plan additional travel time during the event.
