Frederick Police Department detectives have made an arrest into the shooting investigation from July 4, 2014
Update to Original Release:
The Frederick Police Department is continuing to work the investigation into the shooting of a 15 year old female from July 4, 2014. It was through this continued effort and with the assistance of members of the community that we are happy to announce the arrest of a suspect.
A suspect in this case was identified as a 13 year old juvenile male from Frederick, MD. The investigation revealed that the juvenile was in possession of a handgun and fired the handgun several times in the direction of Sagner Avenue. One of rounds fired by the suspect subsequently struck the 15 year old female victim in the leg.
On 07/05/2014 at approximately 1045 PM Officers and Detectives from the Frederick Police Department and the Maryland State Police conducted an operation in the area of Sagner Avenue in an attempt to locate and arrest the suspect in this case. The suspect was located in the area of the Lucas Village Community Park and taken into custody without incident.
Subsequent to this arrest, members of the Frederick Police Department executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence located in the Rhode Island Court area of Frederick Maryland. Evidence pertaining to this shooting was recovered from the residence.
On 07/06/2014 the juvenile suspect was transported to a juvenile detention center after being charged with the below listed offenses. The juvenile victim from this shooting has been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
Additional details regarding the incident and suspect are not being released at this time. This is still an active investigation and detectives are continuing to follow-up on information that is received. Anyone with information on this incident should contact Det. G. Original release
On 7/4/14, at approximately 2245 hours, Frederick Police officers and detectives responded to the 400 block of Sagner Ave. for a shooting. Upon arrival, a 15 year old female was located and was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the leg.
Based upon witness interviews, it is believed that a group of black males were in the Lucas Village Community when one fired a handgun from the area of Rhode Island Ct. The bullet struck the victim when she was walking on Sagner Ave. with friends. It is not believed the victim was the intended target of the shooting.
The victim was transported from the scene by ambulance, and her injury is non-life threatening. As of this writing, she has not yet been released from the hospital.
The investigation into this shooting is active and ongoing; therefore, limited information is being released at this time.
