The City of Frederick Department of Public Works and the Frederick Police Department have identified the follow City streets as having standing water. Do not attempt to drive or walk through standing water.

Standing Water Creates Unsafe Situation on City Streets


Frederick-- The City of Frederick Department of Public Works and the Frederick Police Department have identified the follow City streets as having standing water. Do not attempt to drive or walk through standing water. Please exercise extreme caution in high water areas.

• Church Street from Highland Street to Schafferstadt Blvd is closed to traffic
• Hamilton Ave from South Street to East Patrick Street - standing water
• Pennsylvania Avenue from East Patrick Street to Hope Circle – standing water
• Schafferstadt bike path is closed off of West 2nd Street – standing water


Below is the list of known high water areas in the City. Department of Public Works and Frederick Police Department officials are closely monitoring the weather conditions and will take appropriate action when necessary in anticipation of adverse conditions. Most high water areas have been posted with permanent yellow warning signs. Please exercise extreme caution in high water areas. Do not attempt to drive or walk through high water.

Please assist the Department of Public Works Operations Department by clearing debris from the storm drain intakes near your home and/or business. The City of Frederick has over 5,000 storm drain intakes and it is imperative to keep the drains open and cleared of debris.

The City of Frederick strongly recommends citizens sign up for emergency alerts and other information through “Alert Frederick County”, a citizen alert system for City and County residents managed through Frederick County’s Division of Emergency Management. “Alert Frederick County” is a countywide safe, secure and free emergency alert system.

To sign up to receive emergency alerts, severe weather, and City of Frederick specific police advisories and community messages, go to www.frederickcountymd.gov/alerts and follow the instructions on the County website by clicking on the “Citizen Alert Notification Sign Up” icon. Citizens that opt into the system can select what type of community alerts they wish to receive and designate which devices receive the alerts.
