FAA Releases Additional Funding for Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK)
FREDERICK, MD -- The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the issuance of a grant to the City of Frederick Municipal Airport in the amount of $3.8 million dollars. This is on top of a $1 million dollar grant just issued in the last 60 days. These funds are part of a long term strategy to improve safety and operational capacity at the airport.
The grant monies received today are for the reimbursement to the City for acquiring properties that are currently obstructions, and that are needed for the runway extension. The number one priority at FDK is always safety, but in terms of project priorities it is to acquire properties to enable the removal of obstructions, prepare the Bailes Lane Redevelopment Area, and to extend Runway 5/23. By doing these projects, FDK is made safer and our capacity for the future is notably increased.
Mayor Randy McClement said; “This is more exciting news for the airport, we keep chipping away out there and are thrilled today to have received additional support from our County, State and Federal Partners”.
