On Saturday, August 17th, high wheel cyclists are set to race through downtown Frederick in the 2013 Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Bicycle racing event.

The 2013 Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Bicycle Race - Temporary Road Closures

Frederick, MD -- On Saturday, August 17th, high wheel cyclists are set to race through downtown Frederick in the 2013 Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Bicycle racing event. The race is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM and will feature riders of antique or replicas of the high wheel bicycle, a bicycle popular in the late 19th century. The race will begin at 4:00 p.m. in front of Brewers Alley located on North Market Street.

North Market Street, West 2nd Street, North Court Street, West Church Street, Record Street will be closed on Saturday, August 17th between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM to accommodate the Frederick Clustered Spires High Wheel Race. Motorist will be directed around the route.

Riders from across the United States will be participating in what is being hailed as "The One and Only Penny Farthing race in the United States." The race will be a one-hour multi-lap race of high-wheels along a half-mile circuit in historic downtown Frederick, MD. It will be one of the only four known high wheel races in the world.

During the actual race, antique bicycles dating from the 1890s to 1930s will be on display in City Hall Park located in front of City Hall at 101 North Court Street (N. Court St. & W. Church St).

6:00 - 7:00 pm "Meet the Racers" Public Event (Everedy Square Plaza, Corner of N. East St. and E. Church St)
The public is invited to meet some of the race participants. Racers will show off their high wheel bicycles, and provide mounting/dismounting demonstrations and trick riding.

2:00 pm Race course closed off from public traffic
3:00 pm Race course opens for racer pre-race laps
3:45 pm Racer lineup (in front of Brewer's Alley Restaurant, 124 N. Market St)
