The Frederick Police Department conducted DUI Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols on March 15th and 16th over St. Patrick’s Day weekend resulting in 1 DUI arrest and 3 drug arrests. The Frederick Police Department, Working with members of the Brunswick Police Department, set up two DUI checkpoints near the downtown area in the City of Frederick on Friday evening, contacting 600 drivers to warn them of the dangers of driving under the influence. The checkpoints were on Rosemont Avenue and West 7th Street. Saturation patrols Friday and Saturday evening resulted in 69 traffic stops, 30 citations and equipment repair orders, as well as 1 arrest for DUI and 3 criminal citations for possession of marijuana. The enforcement effort is part of a spring DUI initiative the Frederick Police Department is participating in partnership with and funded by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office aimed at reducing the number of alcohol-related fatal traffic collisions to zero. There have been over 800 DUI-related fatal traffic accidents in the State of Maryland since 2007, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
