Solar Powered City Christmas Trees
Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick is going green with the Christmas trees in front of City Hall in more than one way! Temporary solar panels have been put in front of City Hall to power the lighting of the trees. The solar panels rotate using an automatic grade actuator to track the sun and the panels are calibrated by a small Global Positioning System (GPS) controller. Nexus Energy Homes, developers of Homes at North Pointe, a GeoSolar community located on North Bentz Street in Frederick, donated and installed the panels for this holiday season.
“We would like to thank Nexus Energy Homes for their generous donation of the panels and the installation of system. They contacted the City with the idea and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to utilize another environmentally friendly and cost savings initiative for the City. We also appreciate their efforts to build a net-zero energy community in the City’s North-End.” said Mayor Randy McClement.
The solar panels will be in place lighting the trees until Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
