Did You Know
- Sewer Collection and Maintenance maintains approximately 160 miles of sanitary sewer main lines, nine lift station facilities, and 210 miles of stormwater mains.
- The Stormwater Management Department inspects and maintains the stormwater collection system, along with four lift stations. The city’s Street Sweeping Program is funded by the Stormwater Fund, but is managed by the Street Department. The Stormwater Management Department is also tasked with inspecting all public and privately owned stormwater management facilities.
- The Wastewater Plant discharged 2,387,699,000 gallons of treated water into the Monocacy River in 2010 with an average daily flow of 6,549,000 gallons per day. Discharged water (from the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant) meets Environmental Protection Agency and Maryland Department of the Environment water quality standards before being discharged back to the receiving streams.
- The Water and Sewer Facility Maintenance Department performs preventive and predictive maintenance tasks, repairs, and improvements on all 35 water and sewer facilities of the City of Frederick so that they are safety compliant and operable within permit requirements
- The Water Treatment Department produced 2.2 billion gallons of drinking water in 2022 with an average daily usage of 6.3 million gallons with no Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) or Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) violations. - Water Quality conducts quality testing on 12,500-plus samples for water and wastewater treatment compliance each year.
- Water Service maintains 2,500 fire hydrants, 18,000-plus water meters, and 211 miles of water distribution mains and services up to private property lines. They have six water storage tanks plus 6.75 million gallon capacity.
