Yard Waste Collection

The City of Frederick offers a year round yard waste collection program every week on the same day as your normal household trash collection (unless otherwise directed). The City will discontinue collecting loose leaves placed in the street, as has been the practice in previous years during the fall. All leaves must now be placed in paper yard waste bags or in reusable containers up to 35 gallons in size.

New Yard Waste Disposal Ordinance

In an effort to divert waste, on January 17, 2006, the Frederick County Board of County Commissioners enacted a new Yard Waste Disposal Ordinance; effective May 1, 2006, yard waste disposal was eliminated from the refuse disposal area of the County Landfill (County Ordinance 06-03-399).

As a result, yard waste may no longer be combined with regular trash and must be disposed of separately. In response to these changes the City of Frederick has established a curbside yard waste collection program for all but commercial customers, as defined in Section 10-1 of the City Code.

Effective October 1, 2018, residents' yard waste pick-up will occur on the same day as their currently scheduled solid waste (trash) pick-up. This new schedule replaces the twice-per-month schedule for yard waste collection in their location. For additional yard waste collection program information please call 301-600-1680 or 301-600-1377.
