Recycling
Residential Recycling
Frederick County Government provides biweekly recycling collection for residents of single family households. For more information on residential recycling, including what can and cannot be recycled, how to obtain a cart, and what to do in case of missed pickups, please visit Frederick County Recycling.
The County does not provide recycling service or trash collection for businesses - which includes multi-family housing units. These entities may contract for individual recycling service and can receive assistance from the County in doing so. For more information on business recycling opportunities, please visit Frederick County Business Recycling.
General Guidelines for Recycling
Carts need to be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on the designated collection day. There is no recycling collection on the following holidays:
- New Years Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
If your collection day falls on one of these holidays, or if your recycling pickup is canceled due to inclement weather, your collection will shift one day later than usual. Please listen to your local radio station or call the recycling office for weather related cancellations. Updates and helpful recycling information are also regularly posted online at the Office of Recycling's Facebook page.

A blue recycling bin or cart is required for service. Please call 301-600-2960 to request a recycling container. Three sizes of carts are available. Materials are not accepted in plastic bags.
